We are extremely grateful to all of our volunteers who give their time so selflessly and make such a positive impact on their client's lives.
Our volunteer ages range from 23 - 80, and they come from various backgrounds. Some live in Monifieth, some don't. (It is a requirement for our clients to be resident in Monifieth, but not our volunteers.)
All of our volunteers are reference checked, undergo an enhanced disclosure and understand the importance of confidentiality. They are interviewed and trained by our Project Co-ordinators, and are issued with photographic ID cards. They are then matched with a compatible client, visiting the client in their own home but also - where the client is mobile - taking them out shopping, for a coffee etc.
Ongoing support and supervision is given throughout the befriending relationship. Volunteers have the opportunity to attend our monthly drop-in sessions (on the first Friday of the month at 10.30 am in 4Real Centre) where they meet up with the Co-ordinators and other volunteers for coffee and a chat. From time to time, these sessions are used for additional training, or for visits from speakers from other organisations within the care community.
Volunteers are reimbursed for any out of pocket expenses incurred.
